In the spring of 1819, a young fellow by the name of Henry Shaw from Sheffield, England landed in the small French village if St. Louis, Missouri. There he set up a business promoting components to the settlers that had been heading out from the "Gateway to the West." Business was great and he was able to retire by the age of 40. Ole Henry would soon become the biggest landowner in the metropolis. He constructed Tower Grove Home, which became his estate, and bought quite a little bit of land around it.
